Level Up App

My team worked to design a unique and interactive product that will provide users with the personal space to have fun managing busy schedules, getting updates on campus life, and leveling themselves up!

Role: UX Designer

Year: 2023

Challenge

How can we upgrade the quality of life of an overworked and lonely university student?

Objective

Design a new website or mobile app to help overworked university students take control of their life to have time to connect with others.

High Fidelity Prototype

In the span of a week, my team designed a prototype that had 4 key features:

  • Top-rated dining places around campus and recipe suggestions

  • Intuitive To-Do List

  • Connect with others in the same class/interest

  • List of upcoming school or club events

User Testing Goals

My group asked our user testers the same main questions:

  • What are your thoughts on the design and layout of this app?

  • What was frustrating?

  • If you could change or add one thing about the app, what would it be and why?

The main thing we did was listen!

User Research Reviews

Positive Feedback:

  • Users liked the layout and find the colors soothing.

  • Users appreciated the simplicity and the easily identifiable buttons.

  • User-friendly

Potential Improvements:

  • Users want a quicker way of signing in.

  • Users want to personalize their app experience.

  • Users want a way to return to their previous screens.

  • Users want a clearer way of knowing where in the app they can connect and network.

Next Steps!

  • Color Theme Option: Within settings, add an option to change the color theme

  • Further Developments: Expand more on the connecting with friends portion of the app and the profile/game aspect

Learnings

  • Test on More Users: Gaining feedback from users after they tried our prototype was enlightening because it made me focus on the basic needs that users want in an app. I want to focus on ease of use and intuitive buttons for my future app designs.

  • Create a User Flow Before Creating the Prototype: Because of the time limit, our group didn't have the chance to create a user flow diagram. However, it would've been very useful to map out what we had in mind for how a user could navigate the app.
